Houston officer kills double amputee in wheelchair

By The Associated Press
Associated Press – Sept 23, 2012

HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston police officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair Saturday inside a group home after police say the double amputee threatened the officer and aggressively waved a metal object that turned out to be a pen.

Police spokeswoman Jodi Silva said the man cornered the officer in his wheelchair and was making threats while trying to stab the officer with the pen. At the time, the officer did not know what the metal object was that the man was waving, Silva said.

She said the man came "within inches to a foot" of the officer and did not follow instructions to calm down and remain still.

"Fearing for his partner's safety and his own safety, he discharged his weapon," Silva told The Associated Press.

"It was close quarters in the area of the house," Silva said. "The officer was forced into an area where he had no way to get out."

The officer shot and killed a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair… the double amputee threatened the officer and aggressively waved a metal object that turned out to be a pen … a one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair waving a pen?

“Fearing for his partner’s safety and his own safety…”?

So, there were two cops threatened by this one-armed, one-legged man in a wheelchair waving a pen  in a group home. Group home? Were there more of these wheelchair bound double amputees? All waving pens? Obviously, the cops were surrounded by a group of one-armed, one-legged men in wheelchairs waving pens inside the group home and had to shoot their way out.

SEX OFFENDER ARRESTED

Giovanni Verdelli, registered sex offender, arrested for 169th time in groping incident, NJ police say

July 19, 2012 11:45 AM

(CBS) JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Giovanni Verdelli, a registered sex offender, was arrested for the 169th time on Monday for groping a Jersey City woman on a PATH train, New Jersey police said.

Port of Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said undercover officers of the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) nabbed Verdelli as he tried to board a Jersey City subway train bound for Manhattan, NJ.com reported.

PAPD officers identified the 60-year-old man using a cell phone picture taken by his 28-year-old victim, who he allegedly assaulted on June 30 and July 3, Coleman said. The victim's name hasn't been released.

Arrested for 169th time in a groping incident? Were these all on the same train? Did Giovanni have an annual train pass? 169 times and he’s still out there groping around? Is groping like a parking ticket in New Jersey? The victim took pictures?

Family Values Congressman

Congressman DesJarlais admitted to affairs with two patients during divorce trial

Posted by Aaron Blake on November 15, 2012

Things just got a whole lot worse for Congressman Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.).

According to a new report from the Chattanooga Times Free Press the congressman, who is also a doctor, admitted to sexual relationships with multiple patients and co-workers during sworn testimony at his divorce trial and urged his now-ex-wife to get two abortions, despite campaigning for Congress as an anti-abortion rights, family values candidate.

The paper obtained a transcript of his 2001 trial, in which DesJarlais cops to having “had sexual relationships with at least two patients, three coworkers and a drug representative while he was chief of staff at Grandview Medical Center in Jasper, Tenn.,” in the paper’s words. The relationships with patients both occurred in 2000, when DesJarlais was married.

DesJarlais easily won reelection last week despite reports that he had sex with patients and urged one of them to get an abortion. The congressman hasn’t directly responded to questions on the matter since then.

had sexual relationships with at least two patients, three co-workers and a drug representative” while he was married. “At least”? Does the Congressman have a memory problem?

Urged his wife to get two abortions? This Family Values stuff sure does get complicated, but the good voters of Tennessee understand.

Roadkill found in restaurant, official says

Oct. 1, 2012 09:42 AM
Associated Press

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- An eastern Kentucky health inspector says he has shut down a restaurant after finding roadkill in its kitchen.

Paul Lawson told WYMT-TV that he went to inspect the Red Flower Chinese Restaurant in Williamsburg after customers complained to the health department that it appeared employees had brought in a dead animal. Lawson said he immediately shut the place down.

Lawson said the restaurant owner's son apparently picked a dead deer up from a roadside and brought it to the eatery. Lawson said the owner reported he didn't plan to serve the animal to customers; he planned to feed it to his family.

The inspector said the owner wasn't aware of health regulations, and will not face any fines.

He said the restaurant can reopen if it passes another health inspection.

Right, the family was going to eat the deer. Hmmm, that Mongolian Beef sure is good this week. Wait – what about the cats they found in the freezer?

Vise-Grip Plant Closing, Moving Ops To China

Workers at Neb. Vise-Grip plant told of closure
Associated Press By Nate Jenkins – Sep 4, 2008

“It's a kick in the head," Gary Oden said from a DeWitt bar where employees gathered to discuss the announcement and "try to forget about it."

"Jobs sent overseas from a place like Detroit is different from jobs leaving from a place like DeWitt, Nebraska," he said, referring to DeWitt's small size.

So Detroit is different? What’s different?
It’s o.k. when Detroit workers lose their jobs?

Hey Oden - Unemployment run out yet? Still driving that Toyota?

Court OKs Barring High IQs for Cops

Court: Barring High IQs From Policing Isn't Discrimination

A man whose bid to become a police officer was rejected after he scored too high on an intelligence test has lost an appeal in his federal lawsuit against the city.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld a lower court’s decision that the city did not discriminate against Robert Jordan because the same standards were applied to everyone who took the test.

Jordan, a 49-year-old college graduate, took the exam in 1996 and scored 33 points, the equivalent of an IQ of 125. But New London police interviewed only candidates who scored 20 to 27, on the theory that those who scored too high could get bored with police work and leave soon after undergoing costly training. Most cops score just above normal. The average score nationally for police officers is 21 to 22, the equivalent of an IQ of 104, or just a little above average.

… the U.S. District Court found that New London had “shown a rational basis for the policy.” In a ruling dated Aug. 23, the 2nd Circuit agreed. The court said the policy might be unwise but was a rational way to reduce job turnover.

Jordan has worked as a prison guard since he took the test.

Prison Guards have higher IQ’s than cops? The average cop's IQ is 104 and an IQ of 125 is too high? What's the bottom IQ? I think he stopped me a couple of years ago.

2 Million Flushmate Toilet Systems Recalled Because of Explosions

houselogic.com June 21, 2012
By: Lisa Kaplan Gordon

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is recalling more than 2 million Flushmate systems that are meant to make flushing easier, but can burst and send the toilet lid — and everything else in your toilet — flying.

The Flushmate III Pressure-Assist Flushing System, installed inside the toilet tank, can burst at or near the vessel weld seam, releasing stored pressure that can shatter the tank and lacerate consumers. So far, Flushmate has received 304 reports of explosions causing property damage and 14 reports of impact or laceration injuries.

If you own a Flushmate, immediately turn off the water supply to the unit and stop using the system.

"...shatter the tank and lacerate consumers"?  More like eviscerate consumers. Masculinity gone.

Bicyclist arrested after chase through apartment complex

A 19-year-old bicyclist was arrested for obstructing police after leading an officer on a cat-and-mouse chase through The Club apartment complex.

The incident began about 2:40 a.m. June 15, when the officer saw the man riding his bike on Hunsaker Street without lights, police reports said.

The suspect cut through the basketball and volleyball courts and between buildings as the officer tried to stop him with his overhead lights and siren, the reports said.

The teenager eventually jumped off the bike and ran into a building before the officer caught up with him in a third-floor hallway.

He was taken to the Clinton County Jail on suspicion of resisting and obstructing an officer and being a minor in possession of alcohol.

‘… riding his bike on Hunsaker Street without lights’? In Bath Township? Does anyone know where Hunsaker Street is, or even Bath Township? It’s a long way from being a metropolitan area. Kind of like a side street on the outskirts of Mayberry. And running his overhead lights and siren in an apartment complex at 2:40 a.m. chasing a teenager on a bicycle? Good job Deputy Barney Fife, we’ll have no more of these bikes running around at 2:40 a.m. without lights threatening the good people of Mayberry, I mean Bath Township.

Youngtown still creating sheriff's posse

by Dustin Gardiner - May. 29, 2012 09:18 AM
The Republic azcentral.com

Youngtown is still seeking volunteers to create a sheriff's posse. In December, the Town Council voted to disband Youngtown's police force and replace it with deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. Town leaders said they could no longer afford to operate a police department.

Members of the posse will help the Sheriff's Office by reporting suspicious activity, assisting with traffic control as well as processing police reports and evidence. To join the posse, volunteers must be at least 18 years old, have an Arizona driver's license, pass a background check and be in good health.

18 years old and have an Arizona driver's license? 'Reporting suspicious activity'?  Sounds more like vigilantes than a posse.

Wife killed ex-husband after obscene gesture

May. 15, 2012 04:24 PM
Associated Press

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Authorities say a Northport woman is charged in the gunshot slaying of her ex-husband, who investigators say was killed after making an obscene gesture at her.

Tuscaloosa County sheriff's officials say 30-year-old Tracey Grissom was held on a murder charge in the killing of 28-year-old Hunter Daniel Grissom on Tuesday.
Sheriff Ted Sexton says the couple had a history of domestic violence.

Sexton says Grissom driving to work when she saw her ex-husband at a boat landing. She stopped to take a photo of him for litigation related to their divorce.

Sexton says several witnesses watched as the man made an obscene gesture and the woman opened fire. Authorities say the woman called 911 after using all her ammunition.

Teen attempts to rob Pontiac party store with propane torch

7:39 AM, March 1, 2012
By Tammy Stables Battaglia - Detroit Free Press Staff Writer

Oakland County investigators arrested an 18-year-old Shelby Township teen they say allegedly tried to rob a Pontiac party store using a propane torch.

But the clerk at the In & Out party store on University said he chased the would-be robber with a baseball bat, broke out four windows in the getaway car and attacked the teen, demanding the money back at 10:40 p.m. Monday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The suspect complied, then fled westbound on University in his vehicle.

But a short time later, the suspect's father called the sheriff's office to report his son had been jumped in Pontiac and forced to rob the party store.

Deputies went to their house and arrested the teen, then took him to Doctor's Hospital in Pontiac to be checked out. Investigators also recovered the torch allegedly used in the robbery, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect was being held in the Oakland County Jail. No information was available about his arraignment.

“…the suspect's father called the sheriff's office to report his son had been jumped in Pontiac and forced to rob the party store”? Right, forced to rob the party store with a propane torch. They ought to arrest the father too.

Snoop Dogg arrested on marijuana chargeSAN ANTONIO, Texas Mon Jan 9, 2012 8:18pm EST

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - Rapper Snoop Dogg was arrested over the weekend after border control agents found what they said was a small amount of marijuana on his tour bus.
The singer and record producer, 40, was stopped at the same Sierra Blanca, Texas, checkpoint on Saturday where country singer Willie Nelson was arrested for marijuana possession in 2010, customs officials said.
Bill Brooks, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said agents conducted a routine inspection of the rapper's tour bus on at the U.S.- Mexico border checkpoint east of El Paso and thought they smelled marijuana.
"When our officers did a further inspection, they discovered a small amount of marijuana and turned him over to the Hudspeth County sheriff," Brooks said.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office said Snoop Dogg "freely admitted" the pot belonged to him. He said a dog found a prescription bottle containing rolled marijuana joints and two other containers with marijuana. The rapper was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, released and given a January 20 court date, authorities said.In 2008, Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson collaborated on the song and music video "My Medicine," a thinly veiled homage to marijuana. Both artists have made their appreciation of pot an important part of their public personas.

Snoop Dogg with marijuana? In his tour bus? I can hardly believe it. Just like Willie Nelson’s tour bus arrest. Both arrested in Texas, the U.S. gateway for marijuana from Mexico. Semi-truck loads of mj rolling through Texas, and they bust these guys for a couple of joints in the back of the bus.

Police blotter: Mason man reports subliminal messages in porn
Written by Lansing State Journal 3:38 PM, Jan. 5, 2012

January 1 - A Mason resident called to report receiving subliminal messages he detected while watching a pornographic movie purchased in Jackson.

The complainant replayed the portion of the DVD in slow motion for the officer, who did note four words he could read and a series of other words that passed so quickly they could not be read.

The complainant stated he reported the incident only because he had read where Al Qaeda was inserting messages into pornographic movies.

So you report an Al Qaeda porn movie to the Mason, Michigan (population 8,252) police department? Did they confiscate it? How many times did he have to watch this movie in slow motion to discover the message? What is the message?

Man tries to use $1M bill at Walmart
Associated Press
Dec. 31, 2011 10:50 AM

Lexington, N.C. -- Do you have change for a million-dollar bill?

Police say a North Carolina man insisted his million-dollar note was real when he was buying $476 worth of items at a Walmart.

Investigators told the Winston-Salem Journal that 53-year-old Michael Fuller tried to buy a vacuum cleaner, a microwave oven and other items. Store employees called police after his insistence that the bill was legit, and Fuller was arrested.

The largest bill in circulation is $100. The government stopped making bills of up to $10,000 in 1969.

Fuller was charged with attempting to obtain property by false pretense and uttering a forged instrument. He is in jail on a $17,500 bond, and it isn't clear if he has an attorney. He is scheduled to be in court Tuesday.

Say, about that $17,500 bond, can you break a $1M bill?
