Oakland County investigators arrested an 18-year-old Shelby Township teen they say allegedly tried to rob a Pontiac party store using a propane torch.

But the clerk at the In & Out party store on University said he chased the would-be robber with a baseball bat, broke out four windows in the getaway car and attacked the teen, demanding the money back at 10:40 p.m. Monday, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The suspect complied, then fled westbound on University in his vehicle.

But a short time later, the suspect's father called the sheriff's office to report his son had been jumped in Pontiac and forced to rob the party store.

Deputies went to their house and arrested the teen, then took him to Doctor's Hospital in Pontiac to be checked out. Investigators also recovered the torch allegedly used in the robbery, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect was being held in the Oakland County Jail. No information was available about his arraignment.

“…the suspect's father called the sheriff's office to report his son had been jumped in Pontiac and forced to rob the party store”? Right, forced to rob the party store with a propane torch. They ought to arrest the father too.
